Ice scene near an inn

Fewer than three dozen winterlandscapes by Isack van Ostade are known today. His characteristic winter landscapes inspired a number of artists, among them Claes Molenaer (c. 1630-1676), Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668) and Jan Steen (1626-1679). This painting – like our Johannes Lingelbach – for many years was part of the Northbrook collection.
