To us this is a great masterpiece: not only is it signed and dated and its condition very good; most importantly it is a story about a mother’s love for her child – and this story is told in a very convincing fashion! Love at first sight for George!

Among the surprises in the art market in 2023 was the discovery of this previously unknown Virgin with Child by Abraham Bloemaert. Its noticably careful calligraphic signature dated 1617 is located at the top right – a sign that Bloemaert himself considered this picture to be of particular value.
