Govaert Flinck

Portrait of a girl as shepherdess

Throughout his career Govaert Flinck painted pastoral themes; his earliest dated one is 1636. Pastoral scenes were very popular and were first developed in Utrecht (see also the Shepherdessby Paulus Moreelse) and then spread all over Holland. During restoration of our painting it became clear that the present work is the original composition and that the work in Prague is a contemporary copy.
