Hendrick ter Brugghen

The singing lute player

Hendrick ter Brugghen is today considered one of the most important exponents of the Utrecht followers of Caravaggio – together with Dirck van Baburen and Gerrit van Honthorst. This painting is an autograph replica of the painting in the National Gallery, London. Its rich, beautifully preserved colouration is undoubtedly one of its most attractive features.
